Sudbury started the chase in their normal steady way and Super batting from Kirsty Sloan (26 retired) and Penny Everret (26 Retired) followed by a good performance from Lizzie Philp (15) meant Sudbury were well up with the run rate. Kara Toleman(15), Lucy Stuchfield(15) and Kiri Samaranayake(13) managed to provide some momentum but once their wickets fell Eight Ash Green slammed on the brakes and only gave away 10 runs from the last 7 overs before dismissing the home side in the 17th over for a mere 66. All the bowlers had good spells, D.Green(16 for One), Vanessa Smith(14 for One), but Debbie Aylward(15 for Three) shone throughout taking key wickets, a catch and a run out.

Colchester's feisty opening pair soon had the visitors on the back foot with Kiri Samaranayake(5 for Two) taking two wickets in two balls and KaraToleman(3 for 0) bowling two maidens. Lynn Gunn(3) battled well until a good throw from the boundary and a calm take from Anna Heywood(19 for One) provided a run out. Hannah Jeffries (9 for Three) stemmed the flow until Caroline Hill (17) and Karen Dredge (14) put the pressure back on the visitors. Woodham won the toss and invited Gt Waltham to bat first. The opening bowlers of Southgate and Hayman bowled well and restricted the runs and put pressure on the batsman. The final score 75 from 19.4 overs. Brown and Southgate opened for Woodham and despite some good bowling from Shaw and Z Dryer managed to keep the scoreboard ticking. Southgate retired on 25, Smith came in and carried on the good work, Brown was then out to a smart catch from the wicketkeeper. Guppy came in and with Smith see the woodies home. Kelvedon & Feering 131 for 4  (20 points) bt Woodham Mortimer 69 for 4 (3 points) by 62 runs

Both teams gamely started the 2010 season under grey, heavy skies and very cold conditions. Woodham Mortimer won the toss and elected to field.  The Kelvedon & Feering batsmen set out in a business like fashion and quickly set up a good pace. Honours were pretty evenly spread with Beth Wild retiring and Louise Johnson achieving a creditable 20 before being caught and bold by Meluish. Both Brown and Morling took a wicket a piece. Kelvedon & Feering finished the innings with a very respectable 131 from the 20 overs.
Woodham Mortimer set about their reply with Brown and Southgate responding well to the challenge. Brown went caught by Wild and bowled Tunn but Southgate stuck at the crease doggedly and retired with 25.  Eventually, despite their best efforts the total set proved too much and the innings ended with Woodham Mortimer reaching 69 for 4.  A good win by 62 runs to start the season for Kelvedon & Feering.

Old Chelmsfordians 123 for 3 (20 points) bt Maldon 94 for 9 (5 points) by 28 runs

Old Chelmsfordians lost the toss and were put into bat by Maldon.  The innings got off to a flying start with Libby Knifton racing to 31, hitting 2 sixes and managing to lose the match ball somewhere outside the ground in the process!  Elissa Penketh tried to put the brakes on the run rate, taking two wickets and an excellent catch, but steady innings by Kate Golding and Frances Mower saw out the overs for a total of 123 runs.  The light was fading fast, so a quick turn around brought Penketh and Hadfield to the crease to open the batting for Maldon.  It took 5 overs for OC's to make a breakthrough, with Latimer bowling Hadfield for 15. Elissa Penketh retired on reaching her 25, and with Sue Harris being bowled for 13, Maldon were making a fight of it by going for quick ones and twos.  OC's tried to keep the fielding tight, and when Penketh came back to the crease following the dismissal of the final batsman, she had to go for broke.  Unfortunately, despite her best efforts,!
and the fact that we could all barely see the ball, the OC's kept her runs to a minimum and won their first game of the season.
