Abberton replied well with both openers going well but Harwich stuck tot he task and wickets fell with Michelle Mauger bowling well. The Harwich fielding was excellent with some sharpe catches being taken. Harwich knew they had little chance of defending the total and with Min Patel and Michelle Evans hitting out Abberton reached their total with 3 overs too spare. An excellent last game played in an excellent spirit ! FRIDAY 28 July 2006 Eight Ash Green 109 for 7 bt Colchester & EE 66 for 8 by 43 runs. Debbie Aylward (16 Not out) marshalled the tail with Andi Hard (7) and Karen Dredge (7) seeing the home side set a respectable score of 109 off their 20 overs. In reply Colchester suffered an early set back with Mower (0) out in the first over. Lavender (13) and Tolman (25 retired) put on 39 for the second wicket, but the rate slowed under the relentless Eight Ash Green attack. Melisa Benn (9) and Charlotte Mower (5) tried to rally the tail but wickets fell steadily. Whilst all the Green bowlers were economical assisted by some good fielding, Aylward (15 for Three) and Nikki Brown (7 for One) took vital wickets to complete another double and league title.
Great Waltham 92 for 4 lost to Maldon 94 for 2 by 8 wkts. Batting first, Great Waltham got off to an excellent start with openers Emily Penketh (25 Retired) and Helen Taylor (13) leading the way. A hard hitt5ing Mary Shaw (26 Retired) pushed the score along to reach a respectable score off their 20 overs. For Maldon Laura Thorogood (20 for Two) and Ruth Smith (19 for One) were the wicket takers. In reply Maldon also got off to a good start with openers, mother Shirley Smith (25 retired) scoring a maiden 25, and daughter Ruth (26 Retired) eclipsing this. Thorogood (27 Not Out) saw the visitors home with 3 overs to spare. Shaw (10 for 0) off 4, was the most economical Gt. Waltham bowler. SUNDAY 23rd. July 2006 Great Waltham bt Harwich by default. FRIDAY 21st. July 2006 Colchester & EE 81 for 7 lost to Abberton 84 for 5 by 5 wickets Report to follow FRIDAY 14th. July 2006 Eight Ash Green 125 for 3 bt Gt. Waltham 121 for 1 by 4 runs Batting first, Eight Ash Green lost an early wicket before Cheryl Pinch (26 Retired) and Sue Lee (27 Retired) set about the Gt. Waltham bowlers. With their retirement the pace was maintained by Sue Miller (24) and Rachel Cull (16 Not out) finally setting the daunting target of 126 for the visitors. For Gt Waltham R Wilde (22 for Two) and Laura McClement (29 for 1) were the wicket takers. In reply the Gt. Waltham openers R Wilde (25 retired) and Elisa Penketh (28 Retired) set off in determined style easily scoring at seven an over forcing the home side onto the back foot. A fine spell from Chris Jones (14 for 0) slowed the rate but Gail Forster (25 retired) aided by Mary Shaw (10) restored the rate until Shaw was brilliantly run out by Pinch. Needing 25 off the last 4 overs and with the fielding side well spread out excellent bowling from Debbie Aylward (15 for 0) and a tight final over from Karen Dredge (27 for 0) saw the home side scrape home by the narrowest of margines. tied with Colchester & EE 94 for 3 It was a hot and sunny evening which saw Maldon greet Colchester at the Prom. Maldon lost the toss and Colchester elected to bat. Their opener, F. Mower, was soon run out for 4 but try as they might, the Maldon bowlers could not dislodge Danielle Lavender who kept a cool head and eventually went on to retire on 27 not out. L Hartley was the only other bat to make it into double figures but was cleanly bowled by Ruth Smith for 20. It was not to be the day for Maldon's bowlers and in spite of two excellent run outs and some superb fielding, they were left facing a total of 95 to win! Ruth Smith and Laura Thorogood went to the crease with determination and it paid off! The Colcester bowlers could not remove Smith, who batted with class, and went on to retire, 25 not out. Thorogood (20) was joined by Holly Scrivener (14) and with a combination of quick singles and the odd 4, the total continued to climb steadily. The party calmed down a little as Claire Bulman (9) became the first of 3 wickets in the same over for K Golding and it was left to the quick running of Carol Gillies (10) and skipper Audrey Mitchell (4 not out)to try and hit the winning runs in the final over. In a last ditch effort Gillies was run out but Maldon remained elated as the match ended in a tie. Maldon's player of the match: Ruth Smith Colchester's player of the match: Danielle Lavender. FRIDAY 7 JULY 2006 Gt. Waltham v Abberton no report received and I failed my Clairvoyants exam (again). Maldon 68 for 6 lost to Eight Ash Green 107 for 9 by 31 runs Batting first, eight ash Green were immediately in trouble against the accurate bowling of Ruth Smith (8 for Five) and Clare Bulman (12 for Two), loosing three quick wickets before the score reached 20! Di Passfield (21) and the hard hitting Chris Cunningham (25 retired) restored the momentum, scoring freely from the mid order bowlers racing to over 80 in double quick time. With their departure the Maldon bowlers regained control and restricted the visitors to 107 when a much higher total was expected. In reply, the Maldon openers never looked in trouble but found scoring at the necessary rate difficult missing opportunities to put the fielders under pressure. Holly Scrivener (16) and Laura Thorogood (24) pushed on but were confused by the slow bowling of Chris Jones (10 for 0) of 4 overs, and the faster bowling of Cheryl Pinch (16 for Two). A late charge by the senior players Debbie Guppy (9 Not out) and Shirley Smith (6) with some quickly taken singles were to no avail with the home side falling some 30 runs short of their target. Harwich 104 for 4 lost to Colchester & EE 112 for 5 by 8 runs Colchester opened well with both openers scoring well and running well between the wickets. With an opening partnership of over 50 and both openers retiring the first wicket went when Cook bowled Lavender. Harwich picked up their bowling and feilding to slow the Colchester run rate and only Sue Davies kept the rate up with some excellent striking. Eventually she fell to the slower bowling of Yashlap. With a last flurry Colchester ran up a good score of 112. Harwich started well but tight bowling by C Mower and Lavender put the run rate up. Harwich lost Cook but Southgate and Mauger kept the rate in reach. With Southgate out for 22 and Mauger retiring the game was still close. Sue Davies slowed the run rate with a tight 3 overs, witht the game slipping C Rowland started to crash the ball about giving Harwich a chance with the result in doubt until the last over. Harwich just found the chase too much with Rowland falling in the last over. Final score of 104. Colchester MOM F ! Mower for excellent 25 and two superb catches. Unsure of Harwich MOM ?
FRIDAY 30 JUNE 2006 Eight Ash Green 70 for 4 bt Harwich 68 for 6 by 6 wkts. Batting first, Harwich lost an early wicket but Amy Cook (7) and Felicity Lees (14) scored steadily to put the innings back on course. With their departure Michelle Mauger (26 Retired) and Kelly Bladon (10 not Out) attempted to up the rate but found runs hard to come against the accurate Eight Ash Green attack. Karen Dredge (17 for Three) was the main wicket taker although Debbie Aylward (5 for One) off 4 overs was by far the most economical. The eight Ash Green fielding returned to its usual high standard with only 5 extras conceded. In reply Eight Ash Green attacked the Harwich bowlers from the start, scoring freely with Cheryl Pinch (25 retired) and Di Passfield (14 Not out guiding the home side toward their target. Sophie Southgate (14 for two) slowed the scoring rate with a fine spell, but with Debbie Aylward (11 Not Out) joining Passfield the target was soon reached in the 14th. over. Abberton 48 for 3 bt Maldon 47 for 5 by 7 wkts. Batting first, Maldon had no answer to the accurate Abberton bowlers finding runs exceptionally difficult to obtain. Audrey Mitchell (8 Not Out) and Megan Creasy (11) showed some defiance, batting out their full allocation of 20 overs. Michelle Evans ( 5 for Two), Max Harris ( 5 for One) and Jamie Newstead ( 8 for One), all off four overs each, supported by Amy Finbow (3 for One) off two overs were the cause of the low target. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Abberton chased after their target with Min Patel (15) leading the way supported by S Theobald (8) and Amy Finbow (8 Not Out), reaching their target in the 9th. over. The Maldon wicket takers were megan creasy (11 for One), Carole Gillies (14 for One) and H Thorogood (17 for One).
FRIDAY 23 JUNE 2006 Eight Ash Green 104 for 9 bt Abberton 87 all out by 17 runs Batting first, Eight Ash Green raced away with openers Cheryl Pinch (15) and Sue Lee (26) reaching 50 off the first 10 overs. Jackie Wooton (20 for Three) and Michelle Evans (8 for Three) stemmed the tied by dismissing the Green middle order cheaply. The exception to this was the hard hitting Chris Cunningham (27 Retired) supported by the tail enabling the home side to ease past the hundred off their allotted 20 overs. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Abberton set about their chase with relish taking a number of quick singles disrupting the usually efficient fielding of Eight Ash Green. Scoring at above the required rate Min Patel (16), Sara Cullis (15) and Michelle Evans (16) kept the visitors hopes alive until an inspired spell from Chris Jones (11 for Three) halted progress. Nikki Brown (14 for One) bowled a frugal final spell reducing the visitors to panic for the second successive game, a series of run outs saw the visitors fall well short of their target. Harwich 104 for 9 bt Maldon 87 for 5 by 17 runs Maldon started well having the home side 10 for 3 off 3 overs but Southgate and Glading started to get at the Maldon bowlers and put on 68 runs for the 4th wicket. Both batsmen having to retire. Maldon then came back into the game taking regular wickets and slowing the run rate. In the last three overs Southgate & Glading came back in to finish strongly. L Thorogood having the superb figures of 3 for 8 off 4 overs. Maldon opened strongly with R Smith and L Thorogood scoring freely until the later was bowled by one that kept low. S Smith then joined her daughter and runs continued. R Smith then retired and 'mum' was well taken by S Brooks low down when driving. This opened up an end for Harwich and the runs dried up with Joslin and Kashyap taking the pace off the ball. Wickets fell and despite the effort of D Guppy Maldon fell behind the run rate. In the end they were well short giving the home side their first victory of the season. MOM Harwich J Glading MOM Maldon R Smith
FRIDAY 16 JUNE 2006 Abberton 120 for 8 bt Harwich 44 for 8 by 76 runs No match report or details received in time! Gt. Waltham 71 for 6 lost to Colchester & EE 105 for 2 by 34 runs Details lost in post - no report but score sheet updated. FRIDAY 9 JUNE 2006 Colchester & EE 109 for 6 lost to Eight Ash Green 118 for 3 by 9 runs The clash of the 'titans' at Castle Park saw Eight Ash Green retain their unbeaten record at the expense of Colchester & EE. Batting first, Eight Ash Green got off to an excellent start with openers Cheryl Pinch (25 retired) and Sue Lee (15) scoring at six runs per over. With a couple of close decisions going their way Green piled on the agony for Colchester with A steady knock from Chris Cunningham (22 Not out), some fine square driving by Sue Miller (20) and a final flourish from Sara Rose (17) pushing the total to a fine 118. The Colchester bowlers, assisted by some good fielding, stuck to their task with Lorraine Hartley (30 for Two) and Francis Mower (18 for One) the Colchester wicket takers. Undaunted by the large total, the Colchester openers set about the Eight Ash Green bowlers with some fine leg side strokes keeping ahead of the required rate of six runs per over. Jenny Grinter (25 Retired) took only five overs! Danielle Lavender (8) soon followed but a fine stand by Francis Mower (25 Retired) and Lorraine Hartley (19) put a lot of pressure on the fielding side. The match turned in the 17th. over, scoring at a steady 6 runs per over Colchester stumbled against the economical bowling of Nikki Brown (16 for 0), managing only 2 runs from the over. Panic set in with a series of run outs leaving the home side 9 runs short of their target. Debbie Green (22 for Two) was the only Eight Ash Green wicket taker. A very exciting game from two very evenly matched sides where bowlers suffered and the batters had the upper hand. Maldon 60 for 1 bt Great Waltham 59 all out by 9 wickets. After a two week break, Maldon were raring to go and having won the toss, invited Great Waltham to bat. Unfortunately, the only Waltham player to have any success with the bat was opener E. Penketh who retired on 26. Maldon's bowlers scythed through the remaining bats with Samira proving the most lethal, taking 4 wickets for 18 from 3 overs. Holly Scrivener took 3wkts and Laura Thorogood and Claire Bulman took a wicket apiece. E. Penketh then had to return to the crease only to be caught magnificently at square leg by Laura Thorogood. Maldon's fielding was tight keeping quick singles to a minimum and the catches of Carol Gillies and Claire Bulman were taken with confidence. With 60 runs required to win, Maldon's young opening pair of L. Thorogood and R. Smith went to the crease in high spirits and, try as they might, Great Waltham could not dislodge them. The total climbed steadily and was reached with relative ease, with the loss of only one wicket, Ruth Smith who having batted beautifully, was caught for 17 off the bowling of D. Mulvaney. L. Thorogood went on to retire on 25 (including 5 fours) and the winning runs were made by Holly Scrivener and Claire Bulman. The match was played in very good spirits and Maldon voted E. Penketh as Gt. Waltham's player of the match. Unfortunately, we will have to announce a little later, who Gt. Waltham voted as Maldon's Player of the match.
SUNDAY 4th. JUNE 2006 Harwich 77 for 5 lost to Great Waltham 78 for 9 by 1 wkt. Harwich opened well but lost both openers with the score on 28. Carolyn Rowland started steadily and then opened out to put pressure on the feilding side. She was supported well by Flis Lees. After 11 overs Harwich were well placed with 53 on the board for the lose of the openers. With Carolyn retiring on a good 25 the rate slowed and with good bowling and feilding Harwich ended up with 77. Best bowling at the end coming from L McClement.Great Waltham started well and put on 41 for the first wicket in 10 overs. At this point they were cruising to an easy victory. amy Cook then produced an inspiring bit of bowling taking 5 wickets for 3 runs in 2 overs, all being bowled. At the other end E Penketh was holding up an end, chipping away at the runs. Great Waltham needed 5 to win off the last over with the last pair at the wicket. Two quick singles was followed by a dot ball. Then a hard strike from Penketh saw a two and runs level. Off the nextball she struck the winning run, had the ball hit the stimps it would have been a tie! Excellent game in lovely conditions. Gt Walth pom : E Penketh Harw : A Cook FRIDAY 2nd. JUNE 2006 Colchester & EE 107 for 1 bt. Abberton 92 for 5 by 15 runs Batting first, Colchester got off to an excellent start against old rivals Abberton. Daniel Lavender (25 Retired) and Francis Mower (25 Retired) and Jenny Grinter (11) pushed the score to 90 off 15 with only 17 runs scored off the last five overs! Jenny Manley (18 for one) was the sole Abberton wicket taker. The fielding side conceded some 31 extras, otherwise they would have contained the Colchester side to a respectable total. In reply, the Abberton openers, Sally Cade (25 retired) and Amy Finbow (23), looked in control, scoring steadily maintaining contact with the target with the first wicket falling at 53 in the twelfth over. Despite the efforts of Sara Cullis (9 Not Out), Michelle Evans (9) and a late flurry from Jamie Newstead (7 Not Out) they fell well short in the end. For Colchester, Lorraine Hartley (7 for One) and Kate Golding (12 for One) were the pick of the bowlers. Friday 26th. May:- Gt Waltham v Eight Ash Green Called off due to heavy rain Colchester & EE v Maldon Ladies Called off due to wet pitch Friday 19th. May:- Abberton 67 for 1 wkt bt Gt Waltham 65 for 5 by 9 wkts No report recieved Eight Ash Green 110 for 5 wkts bt Maldon Ladies 65 for 3 wkts by 45 runs. The Green march on with their third consecutive convincing win of the season. On a cold windy night Eight Ash Green scored steadily throughout their innings despite the very slow outfield. Opener, Cheryl Pinch (27 Retired), maintained her unbeaten record for the season, getting the home side off to a good start. Chris Cunningham (19) and Debbie Aylward (21) put on 50 for the fourth wicket pushing the score to 108 before both succumbed in the last over. Bowling into the strong wind proved extremely difficult, but Audrey Mitchell (13 for Three) and Shirley Smith (14 for One) showed their experience in taming the elements. In reply, Maldon got off to a slow but steady start with Smith (18) and Carole Gillies (10) putting on 41 for the first wicket which fell in the twelth over. Lara Thorogood (17) tried to speed things up with some hard hitting but the slow outfield made boundaries difficult to score. With the light rapidly failing the Eight Ash Green bowlers seized the initiative with Pinch (9 for One) and Aylward (6 for One), both off four overs, the Green's successful bowlers. Colchester 98 for 1wkts, bt Harwich 97 for 5 wkts by 9 wkts. Partial score recieved Batting first, Harwich scored steadily with fine contributions from the top order. May:- Maldon Ladies 71 for 5 wkts lost to Abberton 72 for 1 by 9 wkts. On a fine Friday
evening at the Prom, Abberton won the toss and invited Maldon to bat. On a high
from their win last Friday, the Maldon opening pair of Debbie Guppy (14) and
Katie Broadhurst (6) got off to a good steady start against the bowling of M
Snow and C.Pettman. However, Broadhurst soon fell to Wooton's bowling and Jen
Eva(12) was soon battling on with Guppy, adding more runs before Laura Thorogood
came to the crease. She batted superbly and was not out for 16 at the end of
play. Laura was helped along by Holly Scrivener(7) who, unfortunately, was out
with one ball of the match remaining and A. Mitchell was unable to add to the
total, being bowled for a duck :-) Abberton, facing 72 to win, did well not to
lose a wicket early on, as Jen Eva and Holly Scrivener bowled beautifully but to
no avail. J. Manly,(retired 27 not out) however, her co-opener was not so
successful and A. Finbow succumbed to Laura Thorogood's lovely bowling for 10.
It did not take the next two bats of J Wooton (11) and H Barnes (8) too long to
hit the winning runs.
Harwich 53 all out lost to Eight Ash Green 105 for 6 wkts.
By 52 runs. Put into bat, Eight Ash Green continued where they left off last week, with Cheryl Pinch (28 retired) and Di Passfield (18) putting on an opening stand of 32. A middle order collapse slowed the run rate until Debbie Aylward (17) and Sarah Rose (16 Not Out) pushed the final score to 105 for 6. Felicity Lees (14 for Three) and Lynsey Devoil (20 for Two) were the pick of the Harwich Bowlers. Despite the loss of an early wicket, the Harwich response gain momentum with Sophie Southgate (17) and Felicity Lees (17) keeping up the chase. An inspired spell of bowling from Andi Hart (5 for Three) wrecked the Harwich middle order. Karen Dredge (4 for Two) and Lynn Gunn (7 for Two) were the other key wicket takers. Friday 5th. May:- Abberton 34 all out, lost to Eight Ash Green 93 for 9 wkts. By 59 runs. Rachael Cull (16) and Debbie Aylward (7 not out) eased the side to a respectable total at the end. Jacqui Wooton (5 for Four) and Chris Pettman (8 for Two) were the pick of the Abberton bowlers. In reply Abberton were in trouble with the leagues star batswoman, Sally Cade, bowled second ball. Wickets continued to tumble as the Abberton batters had no answer to the accurate Green attack with Jenny Manley (5) and Jacqui Wooton (7) showing resistance, with the last wicket falling in the 10th. over. All the Green bowlers contributed with Nicky Brown (9 for Five) and Debbie Aylward (7 for Two) returning the best figures.
Maldon Ladies 37 for 3 wkts bt Harwich 36 all out by 7 wickets. On a beautiful May evening, Harwich won the toss and elected to bat first. Sophie Southgate (13) opened the batting with F. Lees (0), who very quickly fell to the powerful bowling of Jen Eva (7 for Five). Sophie persevered and while others fell about her, she kept her head, until she was caught off the bowling of Eva. Unfortunately for Harwich, the remaining bats could do nothing against the excellent bowling of Holly Scrivener (5 for One), Laura Thorogood (4 for Two), supported by Audrey Mitchell and Carol Gillies. Audrey Mitchell (2) and Katie Broadhurst (10 Not Out) opened the batting for Maldon and in a rather silly move, Mitchell was run out. Katie (10 Not Out) was joined by Jen Eva (4) who, despite some lovely strokes, was soon out. Laura Thorogood (0) was next and supported Broadhurst well until she skied the ball and was brilliantly caught by T. Ferentinos for a duck! Holly Scrivener (12 Not Out) then steered Maldon to their first victory of the season by hitting 3 magnificent Fours to reach the target in the 12th. Over. H Bladon (8 for One) off 4 overs and F Lees (9 for One) were the Harwich wicket takers supported by Southgate (4 for 0), also off 4 overs. |
