3rd  Eight Ash Green 94 bt Woodham Mortimer 93 for 8

This evenly fought match was enjoyed by players and spectators alike. Woodham Mortimer set the target of 93 for 8. The openers S. Southgate (20) and R. Smith (23)made a great start until the eighth over when K Dredge bowled Southgate. In the over to follow, R. Smith was then denied her 25 by a stunning catch from D Green. D. Guppy did her best to rebuild the momentum with 12 runs. The pick of the bowling came from EAG's wicket keeper who had to down the gloves for the first time in centuries, taking 3 wickets in total.

EAG matched the run rate set by Woodham Mortimer for the first 4 over's despite losing a wicket in the second over from the strong bowling of H. Verlander. EAG did begin to fall below the run rate until D. Passfield began to find the boundaries. Both Passfield and Aylward retired. The visitors the picked up momentum taking 2 quick wickets. Confident running from M. Murphy (8)and C. McCulloch (6) placed the fielders under pressure and drew mistakes. This was short lived as the visitorsithen took 4 wickets in the 18th and 19th over. In an exciting finish, debuted batter Marian Murphy's first ever run was the winning run of the day with 7 balls remaining

4th Old Chelmsfordians 85 for 3 lost to Sudbury 98 for 4

Sudbury travelled to Chelmsford for their play-off game against OC'S a player short. OC'S fielded two non-cricketers. However, both teams put in their best efforts, and we had a very nice game to end the season. OC'S put Sudbury in to bat first and took a early wicket, with Alecock being caught for 2 runs. Any celebrations were short-lived, however, with Philp and Everett both retiring on 25 and 26 respectively. Smith and Mills were then out quite cheaply, but Bradbury and Spencer came in to bat and made a real go of things, scoring several quick singles before Spencer was run out on 15. Bradbury and Harrington then saw out the innings, ending on a respectable total of 98. The OC'S were not able to make much of an impact on the Sudbury opening bowlers, with Everett and Philp being very stingy and allowing only 15 runs between them. The partnerships of Latimer and Blair, and Collins and White made a Stirling effort with the run chase, but the slow start to the innings!
meant it was always going to be a struggle and the OC'S just couldn't make it.

5th Copdock V's Rayleigh Game did not take place.

6th Maldon 66 for 7 lost to Mistley 67 for 2

Good Luck to all teams

8 July 2011

Colchester EE 67 for 1 (20 points) bt  Eight Ash Green 63 all out (1 point)

After seeing off the opening bowlers Sue Miller(17) and Debbie Aylward(8) got the score going with some good singles and well placed boundaries. Once they fell however, the visitors struggled against the spin bowlers with Anna Heywood (4-19) and Lorraine Hartley (4-12) creating havoc.

Kara Toleman(27ret) and Natalie Samaranayake(25ret) attacked the run chase and with a final boundary from Alison Snelling (5 no) the home side reached the target in the 11th ove

Abberton 108 for 6 (6 points) lost to Colchester EE 112 for 2  (20 points)

Following the toss Abberton opted to field first to see what score they would be chasing. During the opening over's the Colchester batters Toleman, and the Samaranakye sisters got Colchester off to a great start. As the run rate slowed Abberton were in a position to take more control of the situation with Porter and Snow able to take a wicket each. The Colchester team ended the 20 over's on 112. A target that Abberton were keen to get on and chase.
The opening partnership was short lived with Toleman striking to take Sibley in a bowl and catch. Finbow soon went after her 10 off 8 balls and Porter joined Shepherd at the crease after Doyle was bowled out. The partnership brought stability and both retired.
It was a close end to the game with Theobold entering the crease with Abberton requiring 12 off the last over. Following a 4 and then a 3 however Colchester slowed the rate once again and left the Abberton team 5 short in the over's played.
A great game - well fought by both teams.
Colchester player of the team - Kiri Samaranakye

Copdock 109 for 6 (20 points) bt Mistley 91 for 8 (7 points)

Eight Ash green 88 for 8 (6 points) lost to Sudbury 110 for 6  (20 points)

Rayleigh player of the match - K Castle

Woodham Mortimer 86 for 6 (5 points) lost to Kelvedon & Feering  87 for 4 (20 points)

Pheasant park was looking top class on a warm, sunny Friday evening and so were the Kelvedon opening bowlers with Woodham down 3 wickets after 5 over's. Southgate (27no)returned this week and batted away, eventually retiring. Woodham's middle order held out as long as they could, G.Sleep (16no), H.Verlander (12)but to no avail. It looked promising for WMCC with the Kelvedon opening batsmen struggling with the Woodham opening bowling of Verlander and Smith only making 48 runs by the 10th over. Butcher (26ret)and T. Wilson (21no) in fine form. A superb catch by Melhuish saw the dismissal of B.Wilson (1). However, needing one run to win Parkinson saw KFCC home in the 17th over

Gt Waltham76 for 7(20 points) bt  Maldon 74 for 8 (5 points)

Waltham won the toss and chose to put Maldon in to bat first. The run rate was slow with Waltham's opening bowlers Mary Shaw and Zelda Dreyer keeping Maldon's run rate down to just 22 after 8 over's. Mary broke through first taking an early wicket, Maldon hang in there. Elisa Penkith made a quick 15 but was soon stopped in her tracks by Karen Dreyer. Briony Pipe helped Maldon's total with their highest score of 18. Waltham bowled well keeping Maldon down to a total of 74.

In reply Waltham made it hard for themselves, Beck Clout and Nancy Bridge set them off with a slow but steady start, Clout retiring put Waltham on to the right start. But Elisia Penkith came on to bowl and made Waltham's middle order collapse in quick succession. But Mary Shaw kept her head and put a much needed 14 runs on the board, which left the bottom order only needing 6 to win. Waltham thought they had it in the bag, but Maldon's bowlers kept Waltham on their toes, with some excellent fielding created a run out, and it was left to our number 10 batsman to finally see us home with 1.3 over's left to spare.

Player of the match for Waltham was Beck Clout and Maldon's was Briony Pipe

Eight Ash Green 54 all out (10 points) tied with Abberton 54 all out (10 points) competition Rule 5.C

Batting first Abberton got off to a poor start loosing two early wickets. Alex Shepherd (12) and Hannah Jeffrey (12) steadied the side with some quick singles until Jeffery was run out going for one too many. Sue Theobald (11 Not Out) provided some hard hitting but none of the tail could stay with her and the side collapsed to be all out in the sixteenth over. Jane Swift, two wickets off three balls, and Debbie Aylward (Four for 8) were the 4 pick of the Green bowlers.
In reply, Eight Ash green got off to a very slow start, loosing an early wicket and scoring at one an over! Di Passfield (29 Not Out) held the innings together with the aid of Sue Miller (5) and Debbie Green (5). Hannah Porter (Two for 5) skilfully marshalled her bowlers keeping pressure on the batters. With four needed off the last over Passfield struck three off the first ball to tie the scores, a fine stop by Patel prevented a score off the second and then Marie Murphy (6) was caught and bowled by Porter. Hannah Porter (Two for 11) and Michelle Snow two for 11) were the other wicket takers.
A low scoring game, only four boundaries scored, but packed with excitement.

Old Chelmsfordians 92 for 8 (6 points) lost to Woodham Mortimer 94 for 4 (20 points)

Kelvedon & Feering 79 for 3 (20 points) bt Gt Waltham 78 for 6 (3 points)

Under greying skies Great Waltham set off steadily but tight bowling and an early wicket taken by Butcher put them under pressure. Keaney held the batting steady and partnered by both Z and K Dreyer put the total up to 78 before Keaney was run out in the last over.

In reply Butcher set a good pace retiring on 25. Kelvedon were then up against the quickly worsening conditions to get finished. Knifton took up the challenge and knocked out a rapid 25. Holmes and Wager were dismissed very cheaply with catches by Keaney and Brown off K Dreyer's bowling but eventually the total was picked off by a great shot for 4 by L Cowell, just as the rain began.

Brown and Hawes were also looking strong, playing some big shots, but they both fell to excellent catches in the deep form Aylward and then Swift. The innings finished 86 for 4.

EAG player of the match Sarah Bamfield struck a comfortable 28 to guide the Green to victory within 17 over's. Mistley took four wickets in total with Brown taking 2 and Chinnery and Morger one each

Gt Waltham 148 for 4 (20 points) bt Old Chelmsfordians 91 for 9 by 57 runs (6 points)

Gt. Waltham secured another win. Waltham reached a total of 148 losing just for wickets along the way. Although an early wicket in the third over looked set to be a repeat of the previous weeks collapse, a tremendous effort from Mary Shaw (28) and Nancy Bridge (25)put Waltham in good stead. The next wicket to fall was Karen Dreyer in the 13th over on 23. Zelda Dreyer also contributed to the big total with 23 not out. It was A. Farer that stood out in OC'S bowling attack taking 2-14 off four over's.

Things look set to stay in Waltham's favour when Zelda took 2 wickets in the second over. OC'S wickets continued to topple and by the fifth over they were 14 for 5. A mid order stand from A. Carter (27 not out) along with S. Blair (12) and C. Mower (14 not out) put OC'S on 77 by the 17th over, and finished on 91 for 9.

Great Waltham's player of the match was Zelda Dreyer for both her excellent bowling and batting. OC'S was A. Carter for her good batting

Rayleigh 103 for 5 (20 points) bt Woodham Mortimer 86 all out by 17 runs (5 points)

During a cloudy and wet evening Rayleigh were put into bat. With wet sticky wicket Fallis and Castle fell early for 4 runs. Lennox defended the fast accurate bowling bringing up the total by 8 but caught by Melhuish. Holyoak retired hitting 28 off 24 balls. Frost saw off opening bowlers and M King and F King increased the run rate with a 40 run partnership. Woodham's bowlers, Verlander, Smith and Melhuish, with one wicket a piece, kept the pressure on with excellent bowling figures.

With the evening brightening Brown and Meluish took to the crease. Brown out for a duck followed by Southgate scoring 2. Meluish continued to keep the run rate (retired for 27) up but Verlander 6 and Hayman were quickly despatched by Castle and Billet Rayleigh's openers. Sleep stabilised Woodham's progress and made an excellent 19 runs before being run out. Lennox now bowling took 4 over's for 7 runs with Neill 5, Smith 1, Guppy and Gillies walking. Thoroughgood made excellent last stand for 6 runs but LBW by fast bowling Williams in her second over.

Eight Ash Green 72 for 7 (3 points) Colchester E E 106 for 3 by 34 runs (20 points)

Abberton 152 for 2 (20 points) bt Mistley 62 for 9 (2 points) No report

Copdock  88 for 7 (4 points) lost to Sudbury 135 for 3 (20 points) No report

Copdock won the toss and decided to field first. Sudbury put on 135 runs with some excellent, strong batting by their top order. Copdock fought back with a respectable 88 with 2 players retiring.
Sudbury player of the match nominated by Copdock was A Smith

Kelvedon & Feering 106 for 5 (20 points) bt Maldon 90 for 6 (6 points)

Kelvedon & Feering steadily built their innings.  Anchored by a good solid innings of 21 by Zoe Wager in her unfamiliar role as opener and assisted with runs later down the order from Sarah Bendall and Verity Michie, and thwarted by good bowling spells from B Pipe, 2 for 15, I Collins 1 for 15 and A Daniels 1 for 11, Kelvedon set a target of 106.

Maldon suffered an early set back losing an early wicket but they then rallied and set about getting steady runs.  A Daniels then upped the run rate achieved with a quick 25 but eventually, tight bowling and some late quick wickets meant the game slipped away but only by a margin of 16 runs.

A well fought match which Kelvedon held onto...just!

Old Chelmsfordians 82 for 7 (5 points)  lost to Gt Waltham 83 for 5 (20 points)

OC'S batted first with Frances Mower making a steady start. Some poor shot selection, and some excellent fielding by Great Waltham, saw OC'S top order bowled for not many runs.  Ally Farrar came to the crease and steadied the ship somewhat, but after 11 runs, was out LBW.  The next two batters were out for only two runs between them.  It looked like the tail enders might put up a bit of resistance with Charlie Mower and Pip Cass getting 8 and 7 runs, respectively, but the run rate was too low and the OC'S finished their innings on 82.  A respectable score, but Great Waltham soon made short work of the total.  OC'S thought they were in with a chance when the Waltham top order were out for only 12 runs between the three of them.  However, Daryl Poole and Keren Dreyer both retired on 26, with Dreyer hitting boundaries at will. Some poor fielding, including a few dropped catches, meant the OC'S couldn't contain the Waltham batting, and they overhauled the OC'S total with over's t!
o spare.
Player of the match for OC'S was Frances Mower; player of the match for Great Waltham was Daryl Poole.

Woodham Mortimer 107 for 6 (20 Points) bt Rayleigh 31 all out (3 points)

Woodham ladies were put into bat, good running between the wickets by the middle order and Southgate's 25 ret. ended with a total of 107 for Rayleigh to chase.  S Lennox 2/16 off 4 best bowling for Rayleigh. Woodham's young bowlers were top class tonight with all taking wickets, Verlander 3/3 off 4, Hayman 1/2 off 3 and Sleep 2/5 off 1. A fantastic run out by young Neill on her debut for WMCC and tight fielding from the more mature ladies of the team put pressure on Rayleigh.
With 4 batsman not scoring there was a glimmer of hope when Thorogood came to the crease and produced a lengthy over that resulted in 14 runs for Rayleigh, however Woodham captain, Brown, decided not to let Thorogood bowl another over and so Rayleigh's hopes were dashed finishing on 31 all out.

Friday 27 May 2011

Colchester & EE 64 for 1 (20 points) bt Abberton 63 for 6 by 9 wickets (1 point)

Abberton elected to bat first and immediately found scoring difficult against Colchester's opening pair. Kara Toleman(2-9) and Natalie Samaranayake(3-15) were rewarded after good pressure had been built by all the bowlers. Minal Patel(16) picked her shots well to ease the pressure slightly. Abberton gained some impetus late in the innings after some lusty blows by Hannah Jeffery(21no) and a cracking pull shot from Maegan Doyle(7no).

In reply Colchester started positively with Kara Toleman 26retired and Natalie Samaranayake 19no. Things were going smoothly for the home side until the visitors unleashed their secret weapon, Sue Theobald(1-2), who took the wicket of Lorraine Hartley(13) with her first ball of the season.

Mistley 98 all out (20 points) bt Copdock 86 for 9 (8 points)

Sudbury 71 for 7 (2 points) lost to Eight Ash Green 76 for 3 (20 points)

Batting first, Sudbury were soon in trouble loosing two quick wickets. Penny Everett (25 retired) steadied the ship with some hard hitting and with support from C Mills (14)pushed the score on. Emily Bradbury (20 not out) joined mills scoring steadily enabling the visitors to reach 71 for 7. Vanessa Smith (Three for 6) and Debbie Aylward (One for 6) did the early damage allowing the home side to take control.

In reply, EAG started well against the rapid bowling of Penny Everett (Two for 11) with Vanessa Smith (17) scoring rapidly. Di Passfield (12) continued the scoring until Sarah Bamfield (14 Not Out) and Jane Swift (18 Not Out) eased the home side to victory at the end of the eleventh over. a comfortable victory by seven wickets

Gt. Waltham  108 for 9 (7 points) lost to Woodham Mortimer 110 for 4 by 6 wickets (20 points)

Woodham Mortimer won the toss and chose to put Gt Waltham into bat.  Nancy and Becky set a slow steady rate of which was finally broken by an excellent catch.  With a loss of another immediate wicket Waltham were worried.  Karen kept her cool though and hit an impressive 25 quickly.  Nancy was still there supporting Karen on her way, Nancy also finally retired but both Karen and Nancy had to make their way back in to see Waltham finish on 108 with the loss of 9 wickets.  Woodham Mortimer then returned fire with a quick 25 from opener Vicky Brown. G. Melhuish was a great support and also eventually retired.  Sophie then batted the remaining over's making an impressive 19.  Woodham Mortimer finally found the 109 with 4 over's to spare.

Player of the match for Gt Waltham was Nancy Bridge for her excellent innings and a superb catch behind the stumps.

Woodham Mortimer player of the match was G Melhuish for her supportive innings and bowling performance

Kelvedon & Feering  70 for 3 (20 points) bt Rayleigh 69 for 6 (2 points)

Rayleigh started nervously, losing a wicket in the first over but then soon showed a new found confidence and rallied with Castle and M King putting together a good partnership, Castle eventually retiring on 28.  But tight Kelvedon and Feering bowling took its toll, with good spells from Cowell, 3 over's 1 for 3, Butcher, 3 over's 2 for 11 and Yates 3 over's 1 for 3 and Rayleigh finished the innings on 69 for 6.

In reply, Kelvedon steadily built their response.  Rayleigh showed great determination in the field however, Natasha Wilson put in a solid performance, retiring on 28, and eventually KFCC reached their target after 12 over's with 7 wickets to spare.

Friday 20 May 2011

Copdock 73 for 9 (5 points) lost to Colchester & E E 144 for 7 by 71 runs (20 points) No report.

Kelvedon & Feering 118 for 8 (20 points) bt Old Chelmsfordians 88 for 2 (7 points)

Butcher and Yates saw Kelvedon & Feering off to a good start putting 40 runs on the board in the first 5 over's and both eventually going for 23 runs each.  Wickets then fell quite quickly, with C Mower and A Farror taking 3 each, but Heather Holmes responsibly stayed the course and steadied the innings. Kelvedon & Feering finished with a total of 118.
In reply OC'S started very well with both F Mower and L Draper confidently setting a good pace.  Eventually, very tidy spells the Kelvedon bowlers, especially Bryony Butcher, 3 over 2 maidens, 2 for 0 and the fast disappearing light made the target beyond reach.  The innings finished with OC'S getting 88 for 2.

Woodham Mortimer 110 for 2 (20 points) bt Maldon 90 for 9 (5 points)

Woodham batsmen return to form with 3 retirements and a collection of wickets. S Southgate's 5 wickets for 9 runs was the highlight of the match, V Brown's 25 off 13 balls another,Woodham fielders had a good game with V Brown taking 3 of the 4 catches to claim wickets. Maldon openers were going well scoring 42 before any wicket fell, from then on Maldon batsmen couldn't keep up with the rate whilst wickets fell regularly, N Hadfield top scoring for Maldon with 23 runs from 20 balls. A lovely evenings cricket with a great crowd of supporters for both teams

Sudbury 140 for 3 (20 points) bt Mistley 114 for 6 (6 points)

Sudbury lost the toss and were put into bat. Opening with Lucy Philp and Ali Teixira scoring 50 between them, Philp eventually caught by Chinery on 22, and Teixira retiring on 28.  Penny Everett made 12 when bowled by Chinery and Ali Smith retired on 28. Gt Waltham 90 for 2  (20 points) bt Rayleigh 87 for 5 (4 points)

Rayleigh were put in to bat first by Beck Clout, Waltham's skipper, and we started well, Rayleigh scoring 35 off the first 10 over's.
Zelda was the star bowler for Waltham taking three wickets for 17 runs off just four over's.  Two spectacular runn outs, one from Darrel Poole and Rachel Bryan, left Rayleigh on 87 for five at the end of their innings.
Waltham soon made short work of the small total reaching it with eight over's to spare.  Darel retired on 25, hitting two 4's and a 6.  Mary Shaw held up one end after the loss of two wickets finishing the innings on 22.  Karen helped Shaw in the final couple of over's hitting successive fours to pass the score set by Rayleigh and end the game.

Abberton 96 for 7 (20 points)  bt Eight Ash Green 83 for 8 (6 points)

Another classic game between the two teams. Fine display of batting from Hannah Jeffers hitting 5 fours (27 retired) supported by Alex Shepherd (23) Some rare errors in the field saw Abberton race to 65 for just 10 over's. EAG tightened the ship and slowed the run rate with improved fielding and strong bowling from Karen Dredge (8 runs from 4 over's 1 wicket)

As  EAG begun the chase Abberton pilled the pressure on with a run out in the first over. Wickets fell early thanks to the bowling of Hannah Porter (6 runs for 4 over's, 4 wickets) At 42 from 10 over's Abberton were looking comfortable.  EAG hit back with Karen Dredge (16) and Caroline Hill (20), but run out of over's. Abberton completed their win by 13 runs. A spirited and enjoyable game for all

Friday 13 May 2011

Kelvedon & Feering 78 for 0 (20 points)  bt Woodham Mortimer 76 all out (2 points)

Woodham Mortimer started soundly with Southgate and Brown steadily moving on the total but after the first three wickets went down, the rest followed quickly and Woodham were all out for 76.  There was sharp fielding from the Kelvedon side, notably Knifton, and some creditable bowling performances from Butcher, 6 for 3, West 7 for 2, and R Wilson, 9 for 1.

Butcher and Yates started Kelvedon & Feering's reply very ably, Butcher retiring on 26 and Yates on 25.  Knifton and Holmes saw off the target in just over 10 over's.  Woodham Mortimer bowlers Verlander, Smith, Hayman and Meluish bowled well against a confident KFCC opening line up. Gt. Waltham (20points) bt Kelvedon & Feering by 63 runs (5 points)

Kelvedon won the toss and decided to put Waltham in to bat.  Beck Clout and Nancy Bridge got Waltham off to a steady start, before they decided to pick up and pace and Clout was run out by some excellent fielding by Kelvedon.  Darel Poole then made a quick 26 from only facing 13 balls, Mary Shaw followed with another quick 26, and Waltham was cruising.  Karen Dreyer also retired and Waltham saw their 3rd wicket fall, Zelda Dreyer then came in and wasted no time in gaining her first 27.  Waltham had scored their highest score ever of 164.  Kelvedon then came in and Waltham were still wary as we started to bowl.  With the light quickly fading and Waltham's steady bowling Kelvedon found it hard to find the gaps.  But with some excellent batting by Charlie and Heather, Kelvedon managed an impressive 101 runs.  It was an excellent game of high quality enjoyed by all.
