Match Reports 2004 Season FRIDAY 6 AUGUST 2004 Colchester bt Police by default. Maldon lost to Harwich by default Abberton Lost to EAG by 7 wickets In the final match of the season both Eight Ash Green and Abberton fielded strong teams. EAG got off to an amazing start when Debbie Aylward (6-6) claimed 2 wickets in the first over. When she returned for her second over she took a further 3 wickets in a maiden over! Abberton on 5 for 5 worked hard to prevent a total collapse and steadily scored runs thanks to Sally Cade, who retired on 26, and Karen Baker 15 not out. EAG went in to bat needing 76 to win. Despite taking 3 early wickets and keeping the bowling tight throughout Abberton were unable to prevent EAG from winning with 3 overs to spare. Debbie Aylward completed her day by retiring on 25. FRIDAY 30 JULY 2004 Abberton 104-5 bt Wivenhoe 79-4 by 25 runs. With their last game of the season, Wivenhoe's hopes of the double over reigning champions Abberton were dashed by the home side regaining their form of last year. Batting first Abberton soon recovered from the early loss of Sally Cade (2) with Kate Harris (24), Sara Cullis (13) and Jamie Newstead (16) scoring rapidly. After a number of quick singles Jenny Manley(25ret) got fed up of running and smashed some boundaries before retiring The rate then slowed leaving Abberton on 104. Max Harris (19-2), Michelle Snow (20-2) and the up and coming R Snow (18-1) were the Wivenhoe wicket takers. In reply Wivenhoe made slow progress after the loss of an early wicket. Michelle Snow (16) and Max Harris (13) helped Clare Kelly (18), all singles, compile the runs. A late burst from Linda Yearling (13no) increased the tempo but the Abberton Bowlers kept control with Jamie Newstead (9-1), Jackie Wooton (13-1) and Kirsty Spain (19-2) taking the wickets. Maldon 69-10 lost to Colchester 97-7 Colchester regained their wining ways with a comprehensive defeat of Maldon and need a victory from the final game next week to keep Eight Ash Green at bay and regain the league title surrendered to Abberton last year. Batting first Colchester scored steadily through Jenny Grinter (31ret) reaching 97-7 off their 20 overs. In reply Maldon were always struggling against the Colchester attack and quickly fell behind the required rate, eventually all out for 69. Harwich 63-9 lost to EAG 73-8 by 10 runs WEDNESDAY 28 JULY2004 Police lost to Gt. Waltham by default FRIDAY 23 JULY 2004 Eight Ash Green 110-3 bt Colchester 78-4 by 32 runs. Colchester started brightly taking the early wicket of Cheryl Pinch for only 8 runs. Helen Barnes (23) and Lyn Gunn (25ret) then put on a partnership of 49 runs to boost the EAG score. After some tight bowling from Colchester and the loss of Barnes and Gunn, S Lee (12) and Chris Cunningham (17no) increased the run rate ensuring that EAG finished leaving Colchester a demanding total of 111 to win. The Colchester innings started well and Francis Mower, opening bat, retired after a superb 25. EAG kept the bowling tight making scoring difficult with Linda Dye (10-2) taking wickets with her last two balls. Despite a flurry of runs towards the end by H Warren (20no) and M Benn (12), Colchester were unable to pass the EAG total falling 32 runs short suffering their first defeat of the season. Gt. Waltham 113-7 bt Harwich 59-7 by 54 runs Harwich had a good start by winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Becky Wilde (25ret) and Gail Forster (16) started a good partnership adding up runs very quickly. But Harwich kept to their task and a fine catch by Anna Cook to dismiss Forster Waltham managed to keep the total rising but at a considerable slower pace. Eventually the overs ran out Gt Waltham's total was kept down to 113. With the weather turning bad Waltham started the bowling in a feirce wind. However, with fantastic bolwing from Gail Forster (5-4) off 2.4, Rachael Harper (13-1) and Becky Wilde (9-1), Waltham bowled Harwich out for only 59. Harwich never gave up even though they only had eight, it was an enjoyable and friendly game. Police 116-4 bt Abberton 106-8 In another high scoring close game Police managed to inflict another loss on reigning champions Abberton. Batting first Police lost an early wicket but Min Patel (25ret) and Michele Mauger (25ret) arrested the decline! With additiona support from Katie Mead (23) and Alex Jordinova (18no). Mandy O'Sullivan (17-2) and Chris pettman (16-1) were the main Abberton wicket takers. In reply Abberton too lost an early wicket but undaunted Sally Cade (26ret) and Chris pettman (25ret) pushed the score along. As the overs ran out a valiant effort by Kim Span (15) came to no avail as she was run out. Min Patel (15-1) and Nikki Bryan (19-1) were the main wicket takers, but a fine team performance saw them home with 190 runs to spare. Wivenhoe 92-8 lost to Maldon 93-6 by 4 wickets. In another close game, Wivenhoe batted first and were soon in trouble. Michelle Snow (25ret) raced along as wickets fell at the other end. Only Michelle Hall (9) and Linda Yearling (11no) offered resistance as the score crept up to 92 off their 20 overs. Fine bowling from Shirley Smith (5-1) supported by Emily Broadhurst (23-2) and Sam Novakowski (25-2) kept the pressure on the Wivenhoe batters. In reply Maldon made a slow start against som accurate bowling, but all changed when hard hitting Sam Novakowski (27ret) smashed the ball all around the ground and into the next field! With the pressure off, holly Scrivener (9) and D Guppy (7no) eased passed the Wivenhoe total with 2 overs to spare. FRIDAY 16 JULY 2004 Eight Ash Green 133-8 bt Wivenhoe 98-5 by 35 runs In a close and exciting high scoring game that kept the small crown of spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. Batting first EAG scored freely reaching 50 in the 6th. over with Cheryl Pinch (25ret) and S Miller (14) leading the way. The Wivenhoe bowlers managed to peg the rate with the regular fall of wickets, however a stubborn knock from Patsy Maile (23), supported by Debbie Aylward (12) and a late blitz from Lyn Gunn (14) saw EAG to the high total of 133 off their 20 overs. For Wivenhoe Di Jay (23-3) and Paula McManus (28-2) were the wicket takers. Undaunted by the high target the Wivenhoe openers Amy Finbow (25ret) and a swashbuckling Michelle Snow (25ret) supported by Paula McManus (15) caused some concern to an unusually subdued EAG attack. With the departure of McManus to a second spectacular catch by wicket keeper Miller and the introduction of Patsy Maile (3-1) and Karron Dredge (5-1), both off 2, to the EAG attack, the run chase faltered. Some hard hitting from Zoe Gould (12) came too late to affect the result which was much closer than the score suggested. FRIDAY 9 JULY 2004 Abberton v Colchester void, called off due to wet pitch. Gt Waltham 95-2 bt Maldon 94-6 by 8 wickets. Batting first Maldon got off to a good start with Emily Broadhurst (25ret) and Holly Scriviner (25) leading the way. With their departure momentum was lost. Shirley Smith (10) helped with a late flurry but the accurate Gt Waltham Bowlers took control with Darel Poole (12-0), Hillery Taylor (16-2) and Becky Wiled (20-1) the wicket takers. In reply Gt Waltham raced away with openers Darel Poole (23) and Becky Wilde(25ret) leading the way supported by Gail Forster (24) reaching their target in the 13th. over. Runs were difficult to get against tight bowling with A Cook (11-4), K Bladon (8-1) and M Doyle (9-1), each off 4 overs. in reply the Harwich youngsters were made to fight for their runs with A Cook (27no) and C keen (15) the major contributors. With the last pair at the wicket Harwich reached their target with one over to spare in a close and exciting game. For Wivenhoe Paula McManus (15-4), Michelle snow (9-2) and Max Harris (8-1) were the wicket takers.
MONDAY 6 July 2004 Gt Waltham bt Wivenhoe by forfiet, wivenhoe unable to field a team. FRIDAY 2 JULY 2004 Colchester v Wivenhoe void rain Maldon v Abberton, void abandoned after 8 overs - rain Gt. Waltham 94-7 lost to E.A.G. 104-3 by 10 runs he game started off with a rain shower, but soon folloed the toss in which Waltham chose to bowl. Pinch and Lee put Walthams openeing bolwlers under alot of pressure as it looked as if Pinch and Lee were there to stay. Finally a break through by Waltham came by Lee being bowled by Becky Wilde. But Eight Ash green still had alot in them and run a total of 104, by the help of excellent batting by Pinch and Dye. So Waltham needed 105, which we thought was a reachable target. Becky and darel looked good making a partnership of over 30, but there was soon a lapse of concentration and Darel was walking back to the changing rooms. Becky Wilde had a good spell and retired on 26, Olivia and Beck Clout began a good partnership running well between the wickets, but with overs running out Wakltham were under pressure to keep up the runs. They had 3 overs left needing 15 runs, so they had to go for it, consequently wickets fell and Waltham could not get the amount needed. It was a very exciting and close match enjoyed by all. Harwich 70-10 lost to Police 93-10 by 23 runs.
Police lost the toss and were put in to bat. Police scored 99
off their 20 overs. Not sure how many wickets lost. Eight I think because
we only had 8 players but Sarah ROSE (27no) batted twice having earlier retired on
25 supported by Kate Mead (18) and Min Patel (14).
In reply, Harwich were all out about 23 runs short of their
target. Sophie Southgate (19) and C Rowland (11). Nicky Gander took 3 for 14
and Michelle Mauger 2 for 5 off 4 overs.

Maldon 77-10 lost to Eight Ash Green 139-3 by 62 runs With Audrey Mitchel winning the toss she decided to put EAG into bat first and they started extremely strongly with the openers both retiring quickly. The first wicked wasn't taken till quite late on in the game with Ruth Smith bowling out the nuber 3 bat H Barnes though this was not enough to stop an excellent batting spell by the team with C Cunningham retiring and D Ayland securing EAG a very high total for Maldon to chase. Maldon know they were up against a lot with 139 to chase and the accurate bowling by EAG made it increasingly hard for the Maldon openers. L Dye dismissed the no.2 bat J Eva and this was quickly followed by a good catch and bowl by bowler Pinch to make sure H. Scriviner couldn;t pose a threat. EAG continued to bowl well and despite a great innings by S. Nowakovsky Maldon could not reach the required target. Wivenhoe bt. Police by forfeit. (Police unable to raise a side.
