Unbeaten Colchester clinch league title Colchester and East Essex clinched their first Beaumont Seymour Women's Cricket league title in a record-breaking season in which they won every match. They beat Abberton in an exciting top-of-the table clash on Friday evening, in which either team could have claimed top spot. Abberton, although needing to beat Colchester comprehensively, mounted a strong challenge, but found Colchester in top form with both bat and ball. Colchester won the toss and elected to bat. An excellent 26 (retired) from Minal Patel and 25 (retired) from Carole Warren, supported by Jenny Grinter (12) saw them pile up 106-4 off their 20 overs and seal the five batting points to guarantee their first title. Jackie Wooton was the best of Abberton's bowlers with 2-19. In reply Abberton, who successfully chased a 100-run target set by Eight Ash Green the previous week, mounted a fierce challenge, led by captain Sally Cade (25 retired), Wooton (18) and Chris Pettman (14 not out). But tight bowling from Colchester's five bowlers made the task too difficult. Kate Golding took 2-15, Patel 2-20, backed up by Sue Davies 1-14, Janet Austin 1-17, and Danielle Lavender 1-20. EAG 58-3 bt Maldon Jackdaws 57-9 by 7 wickets

performance for herself with figures of 2 for 8.
