Friday July 27th.

Abberton v Maldon      Abberton 54 for 5 bt Maldon 53 for 4 by 5 wickets. Batting first Maldon were restricted to 53 off their 20 overs, Audrey Mitchell getting an unbeaten 16. In reply Abberton were made to fight for the points with Dionne Horslen (11) and Jenny Manley (25 retired) top scores.

Copford v EAG            Copford 59 for 2, lost to EAG 60 for 1

Wivenhoe  v Colchester  Wivenhoe 41, lost to Colchester 42 for 0.

Put into bat first by a determined Colchester side, Wivenhoe were made to struggle from the start, loosing wickets at regular intervals. The dominant bowling of Beth Wilde (3 for 10), Sue Davies (3 for 6) and an excellent display of 4 overs of left arm bowling from rising young star Danielle Lavender (3 for 5) saw Colchester dismiss Wivenhoe in the 18th over. In reply Colchester needed only 7 overs to knock off the deficit without loss with Beth Wilde (23 not out) rounding off an superb team performance. The euphoria of gaining maximum points to head the league was short lived as the news of the EAG victory filtered through.

           

Friday  July 20th.

EAG v Abberton                Batting first EAG reached 80 for 5 with Linda Dye (20) and Caroline Woodcock (16) top scores. despite the best efforts of Sally Cade (28 retired) Abberton fell 15 runs short on 65 due, in part, to the fine bowling of Alex Henderson (3 for 11). With one match to go this result leaves EAG in prime position to retain their league title.

Copford v Colchester          Batting first Copford reached 64 for 6 wickets of their 20 overs. Michelle Snow (13) and Anna Richmond (14) were the top scores. In reply Colchester passed the target for the loss of 1 wicket.

Maldon v Police                The bottom of the table clash produced a close and exciting game with Maldon recording their first victory of the season. Batting first the Police were made to struggle by the good Maldon fielding and reached 73 for 8 with Ali Riley (25 retired) again top score. Both Ruth Smith (1 for 10) and Katie Broadhurst (1 for 5) recorded wicket maidens, but not to be out done by her sister, Emiley Broadhurst returned figures of 2 for 11. Despite the bowling efforts of Ali Riley (2 for 12) and Dawn Cann (1 for 13) Emma Webdale (23 not out) saw Maldon reach their target in the last over supported by Ruth Smith (16).

Colchester v Maldon Batting first Maldon found runs extremely difficult to come by. Jen Eva (15) was the only one to reach double figures against the accurate colchester attack, Brigit Keller (5 wickets for 3 runs) claimed the wickets whilst Jan Austin bowled 4 maidens (is this a record for the league?). Maldon reached a total of 42 with 1 ball of their 20 overs left. In reply another excellent knock from Beth Wilde (25 retired) and support from Jenny Grinter (11 not out) saw Colchester reach 43 without loss.

Police V EAG (report by Nick Alldread) EAG batted first and and made a total of 133 for 2 thanks to the great batting of Lynn Gunn (26 RTD), Sara Alldread (26 RTD) and Jane Kennedy (28 RTD). Police lost many early wickets and were 10 for 4 at one stage and eventually they finished on 31 all out after 14.1 overs. Four bowlers were used, Linda Dye (2-6), Cheryl Pinch (3-9), Alex Henderson (2-5) and Natalie Baynham (2-9) with 8 of these wickets being bowled.

Wivenhoe v Abberton   Batting first Abberton scored freely against a depleted Wivenhoe side. Sally Cade (25 retired), Jan Doe (26 retired) and a rapid scoring Jacquie Wooten (26 not out) helped Abberton race to 146 for 2 off their 20 overs. Chris Jones (1 for 19) and Kirsty Taylor (1 for 35) were the only Wivenhoe wicket takers. In reply Wivenhoe were always struggling despite the efforts of Chris Jones (19) and Annie Lucking (26 retired). Chris Petman (2 for 5), Nettie Thorpe (2 for 8) and Kattie Sanders (2 for 11) were the wicket takers, with Wivenhoe ending on 87 for 7.

EAG  v Maldon   Batting first EAG scored a massive 153 for 2 wickets. Lynn Gunn (25 retired), Cheryle Pinch (26 retired), Jane Kennedy (26 retired) and Caroline woodcock (26 retired) were the main run getters. Ju Wakeling (1 for 18) and Audrey Mitchell (1 for 22) were the only wicket takers. in reply Maldon found runs extremely difficult to get with Helen Hill (26) and Jannet Sims (15) the main scorers in the Maldon total of 54 for 2.

Friday  June 29th.

EAG  v Wivenhoe   Batting first EAG were soon in trouble against an accurate Wivenhoe attack. Lynda Dye (25 retired) and  N Baynham (25 retired) regained the initiative with EAG finishing on 99 for 6. Chris Jones (3 for 5) had an excellent spell of bowling restricting runs in the final overs.   In reply Wivenhoe struggled from the start despite the efforts of Racheal Warnes (17) and Claire Kelly (13) reaching 63 for 9 at the close. Lynda Dye rounded off a fine game (Batting, Bowling & wicketkeeping) with 2 for 9 was the best of the EAG bowlers.

Police v Colchester  (revised report due my reporting to errors!)Batting first Colchester scored 109 for 5. Beth Wilde (26 retired) and Harriet (14) the best of the bats with Frances Mower (1 for 10) and Carly Davies (1 for 13) best of the Bowlers. In reply Police were always behind the rate despite Frances Mower (22 not out) holding the Police innings together, reaching 53-9 at the close. Again a splended spell of bowling from Beth Wilde (2 for 7)  and Min Patel (2 for 13) helped Colchester gain the upper hand. Playing her first game 12 year old Danniel Lavender took 1 for 8 and scored 5 runs.

Copford v Maldon  Batting first Maldon scored 92 for 6 with Jen Eva (27 retired) the best of the bats. In reply, Copford reached 93 for 2 with Racheal Smith scoring 21.

Abberton  v Copford  Abberton 10pts bt Copford (4pts) by 6 runs. No more details                                        supplied.

Colchester v EAG  In a close and exciting match the two high scoring sides from last week found runs more difficult to come by. Colchester, batting first, reached 89 for 6 off their 20 overs.  Beth Wild (25 retired) clearly relished her England call up and Stella Lazell (16 ) were the chief run getters with Cheryl Pinch (2 for 16) the best of the EAG bowlers. In reply, Lynn Gunn (16) and Sara Allread (24 in two goes after retiring through injury but bravely returned to the crease at the death to attempt to force the winning runs) were the best of the EAG bats, but again Beth Wild (4 for 15)dominated with the ball as she did with the bat (must come from bowling at your teachers!) Janet Austin (2 for 14) bowled the last over with EAG requiring 8 runs restricted them to 5 for a total of 87 for 8, giving Colchester a narrow but deserved victory by 2 runs.

Wivenhoe  v  Police   Wivenhoe got off to a good start with Nicola Griggs (24) and Chris Jones (26 retired) supported by Catherine Griggs (22 not out) and Sue Warner (10 not out) reaching an impressive 126 for 2 off their 20 overs. Michelle Mauger with 1 for 12 the best Police bowler. Undaunted by the high total Police were quickly into the run chase keeping well ahead of the required run rate taking full advantage of fielding errors. When Dawn Cann retired on 25 the rate slowed and the Wivenhoe bowlers slowly gained the upper hand. Dawn was well supported by the whole team with Ali Riley (11), Jane Bunn (11)  and Jackie Hassinger (12 not out) scoring well reaching 110 for 8 by the close.Catherine Griggs (2 for 11) and Claire Kelly with 2 for 19 the best of the bowlers.

Wivenhoe 11pts  bt  Police (4pts) by 16 runs.

 

Friday  June 15th.

Colchester v Wivenhoe   Colchester punished a weakened Wivenhoe attack scoring 144 for 2 off their 20 overs. Bev Wild (26 retired) and Jenny Grinter (26 retired) and Harriet Warren (25 retired). In response, Wivenhoe finished 79 runs short on 65 for 5. (no further details available)

Colchester 14pts, Wivenhoe 0pts.

EAG v Copford (report by Nick Alldread) EAG batted first and reached a massive total of 145 for 7 off their alloted 20 overs. Lynn Gunn (26 retired) and Cheryl Pinch (26 retired) got the ball rolling with an excellent first wicket partnership. Natalie Baynham (14) and Debbie Aylward (21 not out) were the pick of the rest of the batswomen. Anna Richmond (2-24) and G Hanks (1-20) were the best of the Copford bowlers.

Copford got of to a bad start losing several early wickets but Michelle Snow (14), Anna Richmond (14 not out) and "Ralf" Southgate (11 not out) saved them from and embarrassing defeat leading the Copford Ladies to a total score of 86 for 6 off their 20 overs. The EAG bowling was very tight and there were lots of good bowling performances. Cheryl Pinch (2-15 off 4 overs), Debbie Aylward (1-16 off 4 overs) and Kate Bentall (1-10 off 3 overs) were the pick of the EAG bowlers.

Maldon v Abberton   Maldon batted first but struggled to accumulate runs. Helen Hill (9) and Cass Wright (13 not out) were the best of the bats with Chris Petman proving unplayable taking 2 wickets for 4 runs off her 4 overs, Maldon reached 67-10. In reply Abberton lost 2 early wickets but Sally Cade (26 retired) and Sue Cross (18 not out) supported by Annabel Hill (7) saw the visitors home with 7 overs to spare, at 68 for 3.

Friday  June 8th.

Abberton v EAG  EAG reached an impressive 109 for 2 from their 20 overs with Lynne Gunn retiring on 25 with able support from Cheryl Pinch (14) and Sara Alldread (23). N Baynham (13) and Debbie Aylward (12) remained not out at the end. Abberton got off to a poor start with Lynda Dye (2 for 14) taking her wickets in the first over. Tight bowling from Lynne Sim (2 for 7) and Alex Henderson (2 for 10) restricted the home side to 66 for 8. Tizzie Leary remained 22 not out at the close.

Colchester v Copford  Colchester reached 91 for ? and in reply Copford reached 62. No other details available.

Police v Maldon  Police batting first reached 89 for 5 with Dawn Cann (17) and Jane Bunn 11 not out, top scorers. Janet Sims with 3 for 16 was the best of the Maldon bowlers. In reply Maldon reached 59 for 5 off their 20 overs, Jan Eva top score with 13. For the police, Jane bunn rounded off a successful match with 2 for 14 supported by Amy Clark with 2 for 9.

Abberton v Colchester  Openers Sally Cade (27 retired) and Sara Cullis (14) got Abberton off to a good start ably supported by Jenny Manley (26 retired) and Jaqui Wooton (12), reaching 121 for 7 off their 20 overs. Bev Wild (2 for 11) the best of the Colchester bowlers. Needing a run per ball Colchester lost 2 early wickets but a rapid partnership by Bev Wild (26 retired) and Jenny Grinter (19) maintained the run chase. Harriet Warren (25 retired) saw the visitors within sight of victory but fine bowling from Chris Petman (2 for 12) limited them to 8 runs off the last 4 overs, Colchester reaching 108 for 7 at the close.

Copford v Police  Batting first, Police were always under pressure from the Copford attach who needed only 14 overs to dismiss the visitors for 61. Nikki Gander was again the best bat top scoring with 17. Anna Richmond was the best of the bowlers with 2 for 5. Copford  openers J Mogridge (7) and R Smith (17) got Copford off to a good start supported by Michelle Snow (14 not out) reaching 63 for 2 for an 8 wicket victory. Amy Clark (1 for 8) was the best of the Police bowlers who gained the Police their first League point of the season.

Sunday  May 27th.

Police v Abberton      Batting first the Police battled to 60 all out off their full 20 overs. Amy Clark (15) and Ali Riley were the best of the batters with Alex Shepherd (3 for 6) and Jenna Rix (3 for 7) doing the damage for Abberton. For the second successive game, in form  Abberton required only 11 overs to pass their opponents score with Sara Cullis (20 not out) and Alex Shepherd (18 not out) seeing them home at 61 for 1 wicket.

Friday May 18th.

Abberton v Wivenhoe      Batting first, Wivenhoe struggled to come to terms with accurate Abberton bowling scoring a lowly 62 for 4 wickets with Claire Kelly top score with 19 not out. 12 year old Annabel Jones (1 for 12) deserves a mention getting a wicket with her first ball in a competitive match. In reply Abberton scored freely through Sally Cade (26 retired) and Sara Cullis (24 not out) reaching 65 for 1 wicket in the 11th. over.

E.A.G. v Police    Batting first EAG raced to 118 for 6 wickets off their 20 overs with Lynne Gunn retiring on 26, Cheryl Pinch on 25 with Caroline Woodcock scoring 16. best of the Police bowlers was Nikki Gander with 2 for 21. In reply the Police found it difficult to score off the fine bowling of Lynne Gunn (4 for 14) and Cheryl Pinch (2 for 8) with Nikki Gander top score with 10 in a total of 56 all out.

Colchester v Maldon      Batting first, Maldon found greast difficulty in batting against an accurate Colchester attack only reaching 51 off of their 20m overs, Jennifer Eva top scvoring with 8. Brigit Kellar was the best of the Colchester bowlers with 2 for 9. in reply Stella Layzell gave the visitors a good start with a knock of 16 before the winning run was scored in the 11th. over.

Copford v Abberton

Batting first in bright sunlight (most unusual for this time of year!) Copford reached 106 for 3 wickets  in their allotted 20 overs. Charlie Hignet struck a 6 of her last ball before retiring on 30. Michelle Snow also struck an impressive 25 before she too was forced to retire.

In reply Abberton struggled in the failing light (most usual for this time of year! - that is the light, no Abbertion struggling) with wickets falling at regular intervals. Despite good bowling from Anna Richmond, 3 wickets for 16 runs, Chris  Petman saw Abberton home, in virtual darkness,  with an unbeaten 27.

Copford 4points, Abberton 10 points.

Police v Wivenhoe

Batting first on a ground with rather large boundaries, Wivenhoe got off to an excellent start with openers, hard hitting Chris Jones (25) and Julia Brinkley (27) retiring unbeaten. With able support from Nicola Griggs (18) and Rachael Warnes (15), both unbeaten, Wivenhoe reached an impressive 127 for 2 wickets. The best of the bowlers being  N. Gander with 1 for 14 off her 4 overs.

 

In reply with the light ever fading, the Police were always under pressure with the early dismissal of A Riley (5). A superb knock of 27 (retired) by D Cann was the highlight of the batting performance. The star of the match was undoubtedly Catherine Griggs (3 wickets for 6 runs) with a superb hat-trick in her last over, a feat that she has never achieved before. Rachael Warnes (4 for 13) gave able support. In near darkness the last pair of H Clark and C Smith held out for the Police to finish on 71 for 9 wickets.

Match void. This game was cancelled due to the state of the pitch, a knock on effect from Foot & Mouth restrictions.
